Graft: a sijo
by Rosalind Rousseau
My mother says my body’s
not my body, but a bowed branch,
and my hand’s not my hand, but
an extension of her forearm;
yet, severed from her, I grafted
myself elsewhere; there, I grew.
Rosalind Rousseau is the author of one full-length poetry memoir, Memos to My Mother's Illness, and one chapbook, Memos: B-sides. A confessional poet, she enjoys experimenting with traditional forms of poetry and conversational free verse. She is on Instagram @rousseaupoetry.
